Lustrous Penthouse Ceiling

Venetian plaster is a gorgeous finish, no matter where you put it. Often it is found in grand hotel lobbies, restaurants and luxury bars where is creates a warm natural, inviting glow. In a home, it creates an organic feeling of rich warmth on walls and ceilings. In this residence, the client wanted to accentuate the natural light of the penthouse in a 23 story residential building in downtown Denver. We chose Venetian Plaster for it’s natural polished beauty. Originally, the 20 ft high, 2000 sf ceiling was rough poured concrete with exposed shreds of plywood, nails and rebar. To create the smooth, lustrous finish, we first used hand grinders to even out the large chunks, then skim coated it all with a layer of Wonderfixx concrete, then painted with Benjamin Moore Fresh Start Primer. Finally we applied two coats of Venetian Plaster with trowels and steel blades and polished it to create this luxurious, glowing, mirror-like ceiling.
